During my mama’s most recent trip to visit me in Dallas (aka to deal with my broken-armed issues), we had lunch one day at True Food Kitchen. Some of my friends (ahem, Natalie) have not stopped raving about this restaurant for months. Since I felt like I needed an excuse to go (and, you know, a day off from work), I immediately seized the opportunity to go when my mom’s friend Amy suggested it for lunch. Why did I need a day off from work? Well, unfortunately, True Food Kitchen doesn’t take reservations… and it’s a bit far from my office. But don’t worry, that’s the only downside to this awesome restaurant!
Let’s begin with the drinks. I had the Cucumber Refresher (pictured). A concoction of cucumbers of honey lemonade, the Cucumber Refresher is at once both sweet and tangy. And it’s awesome. I would definitely suggest getting one!
My mom and Amy both ordered the Winter Ingredient salads as their appetizers, and then, for their mains, my mom had the soup of the day and Amy had the Teriyaki Brown Rice Bowl. While they chowed on all of that, I appeased my rumblin tumtum by downing the “Inside Out” Quinoa Burger. Yes, that means that there is quinoa for the buns. Though it was a bit difficult to eat (the quinoa kept crumbling apart), I really enjoyed the burger… and I really, really enjoyed that sweet potato hash that accompanied it.
Just in case that wasn’t enough food for the three of us, we also ordered two orders of the Grilled Albacore Tuna Sliders. These were the bomb.dot.com. Whatever description I provide really won’t do them justice… just know that they have enough wasabi aioli on them to clean your sinuses right up.
True Food Kitchen is located in the Plaza at Preston Center in University Park and is open every day for lunch and dinner, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch (10:00AM – 4:00PM). Be prepared to wait for a table… and be prepared for some awesome food.
