I spent this past weekend in Austin, visiting my parents. The reason for my visit? Austin Opera‘s opening night of Gounod’s Romeo & Juliet. Holy bajeezus, it was amazing. If you have the opportunity to go Thursday, January 29th, at 7:30PM or Sunday, February 1st, at 3:00PM, do yourself a favor and go! Literally every person I spoke to while leaving the performance called it “amazing”, “incredible”, and/or “the best production the Austin Opera has ever had”.

That last one might have been a slight exaggeration (as I’ve loved many of the productions as of late), but I must agree with the former two. It was amazing. It was incredible. Honestly, if I still lived in Austin, I would buy 5 tickets right now for Thursday night and Sunday afternoon – I would bring all of my friends with me and see it 3 times in a period of 2 weekends. I loved it that much.

It probably didn’t hurt that Austin had positively perfect weather this weekend. Blue skies and sunshine galore, with temperatures characteristic of a warm, central Texas winter. The weekend included delicious food (including a trip to Dock & Roll Diner – my favorite food truck in Austin!), lots of shopping, and – of course – tons of fun with family and friends.

What’d you do this weekend?
