So this dress I rented over the weekend for the opening night of the Austin Opera’s Don Giovanni was seriously a stunner. This pink floral brocade ML Monique Lhuillier strapless gown attracted a multitude of compliments.
Plus it matched all of the decor at the opening night gala, so go me.
What I’m Wearing:
Dress: Rent the Runway / Sweater: J.Crew / Purse: Kate Spade, old
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (similar) / Ring: Kate Spade, old / Earrings: The Pearl Monkey
I’ve done odes to Rent the Runway before, but this dress was really a winner. This dress ran a little bit small so I rented the size 8… surprise: it fit splendidly. That was seriously a shocker since I’m an hourglass shape with a – let’s face it – massive bust and a tiny waist. I chose the regular length over the longer length because I am 5’5″ (with the soul of a 6’5″ human). On me, the dress had a slight train – the longer length would’ve likely also been fine for somebody my size, it just would’ve had more of a train. And people probably would’ve tripped over it (don’t say I didn’t warn you!). This dress was perfectly pink – an absolutely splendid choice for a spring soiree. And now for Don Giovanni.
This opera – written by Mozart – tells the story of Don Juan – the infamous seducer of thousands of women. Austin Opera’s production was absolutely spectacular. The tragic comedy was seriously hilarious – we were cracking up nearly the entire time at the bawdy jokes and the witty one-liners. It is definitely not a kid-friendly piece (sex, rape, and murder are prevalent themes) but it is absolutely an adult first-time opera-goer-friendly piece. I would definitely recommend seeing it this Thursday or Sunday – whether you’re a first-timer or an operatic veteran!
