Die Walküre

The past 72 hours have been a total blur. I’m currently en route to Florida for a conference (on the beach… it’s a really hard life!). Obviously, I neglected to do a real photo shoot of my outfits over the weekend, so here’s my Instagram round up from the past few days:

Saturday morning, I flew to Houston for a very quick, 30-hour trip. Why? Opera, of course! The Houston Grand Opera (aka one of my favorite opera companies) was continuing their 4-year Ring Cycle with Wagner’s Die Walküre (you probably know it because of its famous song, The Ride of the Valkyries).

It was simply incredible… though the production was a bit odd (I’m the definition of an opera traditionalist… and so having deities on fork lifts and fallen heroes recreating Miley Cyrus’s wrecking ball was a bit too out there for me). The music was huge and all-consuming and I would definitely recommend catching it if you have a chance… despite the oddities of the production.

The most adorable little brunch at Tiny Boxwoods in Houston with one of my sorority sisters from college. Tiny Boxwoods is the cutest cafe basically ever and I absolutely cannot wait to go back! Best part of the meal? White Wine Mojitos! Yum!

A pre-opera selfie with my mama is always necessary! Especially when you’re going to be there for five hours (it’s a doozy of a long one!). As my mother always says: life is short, but opera is long!

How was your weekend?
