The Great Pumpkin

The Great Pumpkin Recipe

What a fun weekend! On Saturday night, I hosted my annual Halloween party. I believe this was my 7th or 8th fiesta of its kind. This year, I made everything from “deviled eyes” to my favorite witches’ brew – all of which will be coming to the blog this week!

Yes, this week we will be taking a break from all of the fashion as of late (partially because it has been monsooning in Dallas the past few days so I was unable to get outside to take outfit photos) and will be solely focusing on Halloween-themed recipes. Five straight days of recipes. Get ready and roll up your sleeves!

This recipe came to me after thinking of Halloween traditions… like watching Charlie Brown’s classic Halloween special, “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. Obviously, I immediately wanted to recreate the tradition… in the form of food. Or rather, in the form of cheese. So that’s precisely what happened. Keep reading for the full recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 16-ounce blocks of extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 10-ounce goat cheese log, softened
  • 1 pretzel stick

Directions

In a large bowl, use your hands to combine the first three ingredients (the cheeses). Once thoroughly incorporated, mold the cheese into a large lump and place in some saran wrap.

In the saran wrap, roll the cheese into a perfect ball before slightly flattening the top and bottom (to form the pumpkin shape). Use a knife or a spare pretzel stick to create the grooves in the side (through the saran wrap). Use a finger to smooth the grooves before removing the cheese ball from the saran wrap and placing it on the serving platter.

Place a pretzel stick in the center of the top to be the stem, surround the pumpkin with a bunch of crackers, and serve!
