Like basically any 20-something out there, I cannot resist a fun Christmas sweater. Ugly, cute, for a dog – doesn’t matter. I want them all.
In college, my friend Kayla celebrated her birthday every year with a super-fun ugly Christmas sweater party. She and I had matching reindeer antlers and even coordinating ugly Christmas sweaters. Well, they were coordinating until she sewed LEDs into hers so the Christmas tree on her sweater would light up. #overachiever
Kayla’s birthday is in mid-November so this party was always the perfect start to the holiday season. I would make a disastrously strong punch (or hot chocolate with 101 proof peppermint schnapps – my drink of choice every winter when it got below freezing in Upstate New York), Kayla would make some crazy-good cookies, and we’d have all of our closest friends over to the house to celebrate all that was my bestie.
This tradition started my sophomore year and I still have the sweater she bought me when she asked me to help her throw the party (not pictured above, ahem). Every time I think of Christmas sweaters, I can’t help but think of Kayla and me sitting on our counter in that drafty old house in Ithaca, laughing our faces off while wearing antlers and our ever-so-ugly Christmas sweaters.
