I love a warm wintry cocktail. And – truly – warm, mulled wine is probably my favorite of the favorites. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that whipping up a a giant pot of mulled wine makes the house smell like heaven and Christmas all rolled into one!
I made this recipe a few weeks ago when I had coworkers over to my apartment before the holiday party. Upon walking into the door, every single guest commented on how delicious my home smelled (1000% due to this mulled wine… and perhaps a Voluspa candle or two).
This recipe is so very easy to make, you won’t even believe it. I made a giant vat of this recipe for the party – for it would be the biggest of disasters if you ran out of mulled wine at a holiday party (#amIright?). Keep reading for the full recipe.
By the way, I used three bottles of Channing Daughters Merlot… but you can use any red wine(s) of your choice. Let me know how it turns out!
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 1 orange, sliced (keep the peel on!)
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 8 whole cloves
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- optional: 1/4 cup of spiced rum
Directions:
Combine all of the ingredients in a large pot over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer and then reduce the heat to medium-low and let simmer for 20-30 minutes. Strain out the orange slices, apple slices, cloves, and cinnamon sticks and serve hot.
