Of course I wore a glittery birthday dress for my birthday celebrations Saturday night. And by “birthday celebrations”, I mean 5-hour-long German opera at the Houston Grand Opera. With my parental units. Or, as my father likes to abbreviate, “PUs”.
But yes, of course I wore glitter.
My birthday was such fun. On Saturday night, we saw Siegfried, which was pretty incredible (if not more-than-slightly odd). My parents and I spent the whole weekend in Houston at the Hotel Zaza. If you follow me on Snapchat (@akkushner), you probably saw my totally badass room. The Zaza was so kind to upgrade me to their Bella Vita Magnificent Seven Suite. So I had a two bedroom suite. To myself. For two nights. Apparently, Drake usually stays in that room. So now we’re best friends.
What I’m Wearing:
Dress: Pamela by Pamela Rowland (via Rent the Runway) / Clutch: Aldo (under $50!!!!) / Shoes: Cole Haan
Necklace: Mirina Collections, c/o (use code amandaxoxo for 20% off site-wide!) / Earrings: Kate Spade
Ring: Kate Spade, old (similar) / Lipgloss: Beauty for Real in “Kiss Me”
Since I am now 26 (and you’ve seen my birthday dress), I believe that it is time for another 30 before 30 update!
10. Take a calligraphy class
Progress: Completed, February 2016
Did you see this picture on Instagram? I took a class through Circle Seven Five back in February and it was ever so much fun! I’ve been writing all of my grocery lists in calligraphy ever since. What? I’m practicing.
14. Take a girls’ trip
Progress: Completed, March 2016
This was the most fun trip. I went to Napa for a few days in March and it was a total blast. Have you checked out my Napa Travel Guide? Between this visit and my trip last year through work, I’ve visited all of the restaurants and wineries I list in the guide.
22. See 30 operas
Progress: 9 out of 30
This spring, I saw Of Mice and Men at the Austin Opera, then I saw Manon at the Dallas Opera, and, most recently, I saw Siegfried at the Houston Opera. All three were fantastic – I particularly enjoyed Manon!
23. Go to the Dallas Zoo and the Dallas Aquarium
Progress: Completed, March 2016
I loved the Dallas Zoo. To be honest, the Dallas Aquarium was a huge let-down – I was horrified at how the animals were treated and the general conditions of the property. BUT I am counting down the days till my next visit to the Dallas Zoo!
Between now and my next 30 Before 30 Update in mid-July, I plan to read a lot (how am I nowhere near done with #4 yet?!?!), complete #19 on my list, and make more of a dent in #22 by seeing at least two more operas. 8 done in one year, 22 to go over the next four!
