Blue Dress to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Blue Dress to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Okay – I am freaking obsessed with this blue neoprene dress. It would be the absolute perfect dress to wear to a summer wedding. No questions asked.

I scored this dress via Rent the Runway (per usual – seriously the Unlimited membership is the greatest thing ever… make sure you use code FFUNL050216 when you sign up and you’ll get $20 off your first month!) and this dress was basically a scuba suit in cocktail dress form.

But like… a super flattering one.

A bit more about this dress: the neoprene fabric allows for a form-fitting look while still being stretchy enough to wear to a meal during which you plan to gorge yourself (or for when you plan on dancing the night away!). The dress is short enough to be sexy but still somehow conservative enough – given the cap sleeves and the crew-neck – so you’re far from being that girl at the wedding. It’s basically the sisterhood of the traveling pants dress and I’m fairly confident that the fit-and-flare cut would be perfect on any body type.

So I actually have a confession to make: I didn’t pick this dress to wear to a summer wedding – I actually wore it to the opera in Fort Worth a few weeks ago. But all of the above still hold. That night, we went to Del Frisco’s for dinner (see: “meal during which you plan to gorge yourself”) before walking over to the Bass Performance Hall to grab drinks and see the premiere of JFK. And this dress totally held up. I didn’t feel uncomfortable or like I looked bloated all night (even though I had legit downed a bowl of mac & cheese – my weakness – after splitting a steak with my mom). The dress was light and breathable in the Texas heat but thick enough so I didn’t freeze my butt off the moment I sat down in the theater. Oh, and, unlike what happened to me almost daily in high school, nobody got mad at me for wearing something shorter than my fingertips! Success all around.

OH and PS friends: since this dress is made out of neoprene, it won’t wrinkle! Definitely keep that in mind if you have a wedding that requires travel in your future!

PPS prefer to buy rather than rent? I love this black dress for only $30, this laser-cut number, this gorgeous floral frock, and this stunning embellished mint dress (also available in pink!).
