If there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s unwind. Honestly. Chilling is my specialty.
And stress? What stress?
During the week, I always make time to clear my head before bed. Typically, that involves working out, reading, or watching TV. But, during the weekend… that’s my time to truly unwind after a hectic week.

So you’ve had a really crazy week. Tons of deliverables, little sleep, not enough time to workout or spend time with your loved ones. Basically you’re a little walking ball of stress. And you want to figure out how to unwind after a hectic week because otherwise you might bite off somebody’s head.
Sound familiar? No? Just me?
Everybody has been there. Literally everybody.
So step 1: remember that you’re not the only one who struggles with stress. Once you remember that literally everybody goes through this (even though they might not show it), it sometimes makes it easier to ask for help when necessary.
But what if you want to unwind and not deal with any humans in the process? (FYI – I relate to this 100%)
My Favorite Tips to Help You Unwind After a Hectic Week
How to Unwind After a Hectic Week: Draw a Bath
If the photos above are any indication, nothing helps me de-stress and unwind after a hectic week like a long, hot bath. A bath is actually a great way to chill mid-week if you have a spare hour after a long workday.
I like to accompany my bath with bubbles, bath salts, a cooling eye mask, and maybe even a glass of wine. You know, for really special occasions (or just for when I’m particularly in need of a relaxing evening).
How to Unwind After a Hectic Week: Practice Some Self-Care
There are very few things that bring me back down to earth (and calm me TF down) like a skincare routine. At night, that skincare routine can take me 30 minutes (or longer). And I absolutely love it.
Keep an eye out for a full post coming soon, but some of my favorite products include this hydrating mask (you can sleep in it!) and this firming mask.
Only have time for one or two products? After cleansing, apply this mask for 20 minutes – it’s basically like a facial in a bottle. Follow with this facial oil to balance out your skin (and maybe this heavy-duty moisturizer if you’re in desperate need of hydration).
How to Unwind After a Hectic Week: Have a Glass of Wine
While I definitely don’t advocate binge-drinking (especially during the week – enduring the hangover from hell while at work sounds absolutely miserable), I do love a glass of red wine to help me unwind after a hectic week.
If you only have 20 minutes to chill, sit down, pour yourself a glass, turn on some mindless TV or open a book, and enjoy that glass, sip by sip. Trust me: it works.
How to Unwind After a Hectic Week: Go Work Out
If Legally Blonde taught me one thing, it was that exercise releases endorphins. And endorphins make you happy. And happy people just don’t shoot their husbands – they just don’t!
Whether it’s going for a run around your neighborhood, dashing into a workout class for an hour, at or even doing a targeted butt workout at home, just move. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes, working out will do wonders to help you unwind after a hectic week.
When I’m not feeling like getting on the treadmill or popping into a class at Equinox, I like to go for a walk around my neighborhood. I’ll listen to my latest favorite podcast while walking from my house to Highland Park Village (about 1.5 miles each way), and grab a coffee at BIRD Bakery or Royal Blue Grocery. It’s the perfect relaxing way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning (or both!).
How to Unwind After a Hectic Week: Indulge a Bit
If all else fails, it’s time to call in the big guns. If you can get away for a few hours, check yourself into a spa. Get a massage, a facial, even go for a mani/pedi. Just that little bit of pampering will help.
I’m a member at Hiatus Spa here in Dallas and I make a point to go regularly to ensure I stay as stress-free as physically possible (when you’re essentially working two jobs and going on a slew of unremarkable dates). I try to get a 90 minute facial (I like the Perfectionist and the Clean Slate at Hiatus!) and a 90 minute hot-stone massage each month. And that combination does wonders for my mental and physical health.
