I am so excited to share my outdoor living space reveal with you guys! In the event you missed the grand reveal via Instagram Reels, you can check that out here. I’ve previously shared these images on Instagram. Since you guys had so many requests for links, I thought it easiest to share via a blog post.
To answer a few questions up top:
- I have fake turf throughout my backyard. I worked with the folks at TEX-CAN Synthetic Turf for that project back in 2019 and loved the experience. They even did my neighbors’ backyard… and then popped into mine to fix a few things, completely unprompted. I hadn’t even realized anything was wrong! If you live in Dallas and are looking to put in synthetic turf, I highly recommend TEX-CAN – tell them I sent ya!
- I spread out my purchases across several years. I purchased the hanging chair in 2014, the garden stools in 2016, and the porch swing in 2019. The fake turf was also installed in 2019. I bought the four-piece seating set (with the coffee table), my mini fire pit, and the rug last fall (fall 2020), and then I purchased the plants this spring, a few weeks before photographing the outdoor living space reveal.
- Excluding the turf, which cost about $2000 (including installation), all of the furnishings and plants included in my outdoor living space reveal cost around $2100 total. Again though, these purchases were spread out across 7 years. I believe in doing things gradually, to ensure you’re happy (and remain happy!) with the final outcome. The most I spent in a single year on my backyard was about $500.

And now for the outdoor living space reveal details!
Let’s start with the plants (that’s fun, right?). As you can see, I’ve gotten very confident in my green thumb since getting Fernadette last year (the fiddle leaf fig in my living room).
Some of the planters were given to me as hand-me-downs from my parents, but most were purchased from Home Depot. I planted a little herb garden, filled with mint, lavender, basil, rosemary, and thyme – all purchased from my local Home Depot. In the backyard, I also have impatiens and hydrangeas (so excited for those to bloom!).
Since I wanted some height, I purchased three fruit-growing trees from FastGrowingTrees.com. In the large planters, I have one Meyer lemon tree, one Persian “Bearss” lime tree, and one Satsuma Mandarin orange tree. I am very excited for them to begin bearing fruit – hopefully next year they’ll be ready!
Each of the trees’ planters are on rollers. That way, I can easily bring the trees inside when the Texas weather gets dicey (which is pretty frequent), or when we have a cold snap. The rug is also fully washable, which is great because things outside definitely get yucky over time!
